I was so flattered when Kirsten asked me to photograph the “guys getting ready” on her big wedding day! She and Keith tied the knot earlier this month, and it was such a pleasure to capture some of the moments that she missed when she was getting beautified herself. It was SO much fun to step outside my comfort zone, and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to do my first wedding -related shoot. : )
A wise man once told me “go early, and stay late” (thanks, Bob!). I’m glad I listened to his advice on this day. I arrived so early at the hotel, I was able to take a few pics of the GIRLS getting ready, too! The energy in the room was electrifying and yet there was such a sense of calm amongst the girls while they prepared for the ceremony. And I continued to shoot away!
This was a very special moment between Kirsten and her sister, Matron of Honor, Jenn. Jenn had surprised Kir with the “something blue” – a swatch from Grammy’s blue dress that she wore to EVERY special occasion. I think all of our eyes filled up with tears for a moment. And then the bride-to-be took a deep breath, trying to relish this moment on her special day.
Next, I ran over the groom’s hotel room, and I swear I felt like I was crashing a bachelor party. About a dozen guys throwing back a couple of beers, and then there was me! I have never been surrounded by so much testosterone per square inch. But it was so great to witness. For as many times as I have been a bridesmaid, I have never seen this side of the wedding preparation before. And it is just as emotional on the guys’ side as it is on the girls’! Some very special moments captured here…
So I mentioned that piece of advice, “go early, and stay late”. After my job of ‘photographing the guys’ was done, Kirsten was so kind as to invite me to the ceremony, which was sprinkled with songs and blessings that were uniquely “Kir & Keith”.
Thank you for including me in your beautiful wedding day. I wish you all the best that life and love have to offer!
