Meet the Cornelius family; Mike, Coree, and the adorable Addison. Mike is a lieutenant commander in the navy and is attending the US Naval War College. His naval career has required that he and his family move 8 times in the last 12 years, and while stationed in Newport, they hope to capture some family photos.
I was so incredibly flattered when Coree asked me to come to Newport and photograph them. This family has had a difficult year full of ups and downs. Mike was diagnosed with cancer a little over a year ago. He has fought the good fight to overcome it, and he has WON. Now, this family is spending their days celebrating some of life’s sweetest victories. It was my personal goal that each frame capture a moment to be remembered forever. A hand being held, a reassuring smile, a comfortable sigh of relief, an easy breath; all proof that everything is going to be ok for the Cornelius family. More than ok. : )
Addie running with the Naval War College behind her.It was a little too perfect…Coree found a starfish nearby, and gave it to Addison. It took her a minute to decide whether or not she liked it (and we were trying to figure out whether or not it was still alive?!). She ended up growing really attached to it and had a hard time throwing it back into the water. But once she did, her little ocean friend survived. Addie’s good deed for the day!
The beautiful lighthouse on Goat Island…it was a bit breezy. Addie was a real trooper!Mike’s stomping grounds, the Naval War CollegeAnchors Away!
Thank you, Coree and Mike, for asking me to come to Newport to take your family photos. It was so great to see you all, and I enjoyed my tour of the base! Your home is beautiful, as is your little girl. You have so much to be proud of and even more to celebrate! : ) XO
